This section is about culture and customs. Our group (Oceania) worked on a Vietnamese dance mixed with a Haka. I also made a chart explaining the language, celebrations, festivals, religion, customs, clothing, costumes, music, food, and sports.
LanguageEnglish is the dominant language, but there are still two official languages of New Zealand. Maori became an official language in 1987 and sign language became official in April 2006.
CustomsSharing food is common If the host says "don't bring anything", still bring a small gift. Don't take it personally if someone says they are coming but don't show up. Coffee and tea are common. Smoking is rare. Morning and afternoon teas at work are common. If you shout, you are paying the cost.

Celebrations and FestivalsA festival in New Zealand is called the Kawhia Kai Festival focusing on indigenous food. Most festivals in February and March. There is also a festival about seafood.
ClothingNew Zealanders wear casual clothes usually, and even when men go to work, they still wear shorts, knee socks, white shirts and ties to work. Maori also dress casual but they still wear traditional clothes for special occasions.

ReligionNew Zealand is more than 50% Christian. 33% of New Zealand is non-religious, and 17% of people in New Zealand are another religion.
MusicA Koauau is a native primitive flute with six finger holes. From the 1900s to the 1940s, recorded music and pop music were popular. From 1950s to the 1980s, folk, pop and rock music flourished. From 1990s to the 2000s sharing and recording music was popular.

FoodIn New Zealand, there is a special dinner entree named roast lamb with mint sauce that is usually cooked with roast potato roast sweet potato, and roast pumpkin. Hangi is a Maori dish prepared only in regions of the country where there are hot springs.

SportsNew Zealanders like a lot of different sports, such as rugby. Cricket is also popular. Water sports such as sailing, surfing and kayaking are also common in New Zealand. Bruce Kendall won the Olympic gold medal for yacht racing in 1988.
